Michael Madsen Dies at 67; Authorities Cite Cardiac Arrest

A slate of independent films along with a forthcoming poetry collection remain incomplete after his death.

Overview

  • Deputies responding to a 911 call found Madsen unresponsive at his Malibu home and he was pronounced dead at 8:25 a.m. on July 3, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
  • His representatives confirmed cardiac arrest as the preliminary cause of death, with no foul play suspected and a coroner’s report pending in four to six weeks.
  • The veteran actor amassed more than 300 film and television credits since the 1980s, most memorably as Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs and Budd in Kill Bill.
  • In recent years he had been working on independent features including Resurrection Road, Concessions and Cookbook for Southern Housewives, all now left unfinished.
  • Madsen was preparing his poetry collection Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems, which remains in editing at the time of his passing.
