Michael Langer Begins Sports Management Traineeship at Schalke 04

Reporting to sporting director Frank Baumann, the role covers scouting, data analysis, rotations through the men’s, women’s, youth teams.

Overview

  • Langer retired from his playing career in summer 2025 after eight seasons at Schalke, where he joined in August 2017 as the number three goalkeeper and became a fan favorite.
  • Building on a sports management degree completed in November 2024, he has embarked on a season-long traineeship within Schalke’s sport management department.
  • His prior career included spells in Norway, Sweden and the United States, earning the “globetrotter” label before settling at Schalke.
  • The traineeship is part of Schalke’s strategy to cultivate former players for long-term roles within its sporting infrastructure by providing hands-on experience across scouting, data analysis and cross-team operations.
  • Schalke has not yet determined whether Langer will remain with the club beyond the current season in a permanent front-office capacity.
