Michael Jackson's 1984 Pepsi Ad Jacket Auctioned for £250,000

Auction also sees George Michael's jacket and Amy Winehouse's hairpiece fetch high prices

  • Michael Jackson's black-and-white leather jacket, worn in a 1984 Pepsi commercial, was auctioned for £250,000 ($306,000), within the expected range of £200,000 to £400,000.
  • The auction also featured other music memorabilia, including a George Michael jacket and an Amy Winehouse hairpiece, which fetched £93,750 ($115,000) and £18,750 ($22,900) respectively.
  • The auctioned items were part of a four-day Propstore entertainment sale in London, which included over 200 pieces of music memorabilia from various artists such as David Bowie, Oasis, The Beatles, and Elvis Presley.
  • The Pepsi commercial series, in which Jackson wore the auctioned jacket, is infamously known for an incident where Jackson's hair caught fire during filming, causing him serious burns. However, he was wearing a different jacket at the time of the accident.
  • This is not the first time Jackson's memorabilia has fetched high prices at auction. In 2010, a crystal-studded glove worn by Jackson during the Jacksons’ 1984 Victory tour sold for $190,000.
