Culver's death was confirmed by his agency, Alliance Agents, but no cause of death was disclosed. He had been battling cancer for several years.
Beyond his memorable 'Star Wars' role, Culver had a prolific career in film, television, and theater, including roles in 'A Passage to India' and 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes.'
In his later years, Culver focused on political activism, supporting various social causes and campaigning for a statue to honor Iraq War protester Brian Haw.
Culver is survived by his second wife, Amanda Ward Culver, his children Roderic, Sue, and Justin Culver, and his grandchildren.
