Overview
- Crews placed 11 of 22 Leandro Erlich–designed units near Fourth Street, forming the start of an underwater “traffic jam.”
- The remaining 11 cars are scheduled for deployment toward the end of October, completing the initial nearshore installation.
- The site sits roughly 700 feet off Miami Beach in 15 to 20 feet of water, allowing access by swimmers without a boat.
- More than 2,000 locally grown soft corals from Coral Morphologic nurseries will be transplanted onto the marine-grade concrete to create habitat.
- Backed by a $5 million city bond, organizers are raising an additional $6 million for phase one and targeting $40 million for the multi-year, seven-mile buildout.
