Overview

  • Mumbai has over 13,000 cessed buildings and MHADA’s pre-monsoon survey flagged 96 as hazardous, affecting around 2,400 residents.
  • MHADA will pay ₹20,000 monthly rent to tenants who secure their own temporary accommodation during reconstruction.
  • The authority plans to lease 400 transit tenements sized 180–250 sq ft for up to three years through external agencies.
  • MHADA oversees 20,591 transit tenements but only 786 vacancies remain, prompting the external leasing initiative.
  • All relocation expenses, including rent and maintenance of transit units, will be recovered from the parties responsible for redevelopment.
