Overview
- From July 1 to 7, MHADA will conduct a statewide tree plantation drive targeting 200,000 saplings during Van Mahotsav Week.
- The Mumbai Housing Board will plant 50,000 saplings and the Konkan Housing Board 25,000, while other regional boards have been urged to aim for 25,000 each.
- Undevelopable plots in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will be transformed into dense urban forests using the Miyawaki method to boost biodiversity.
- Only environment-friendly tree species will be selected and every sapling will be geo-tagged for progress monitoring.
- Long-term maintenance will fall to housing societies and a circular will mandate compensatory planting for trees felled on MHADA projects.
