MHA Names Rajeev Verma Delhi Chief Secretary, Effective October 1

The Home Ministry’s cadre reshuffle places a seasoned AGMUT officer in Delhi’s top administrative post to sustain leadership continuity.

Overview

  • An official order transfers Rajeev Verma from Chandigarh to the GNCTD as chief secretary w.e.f. 01.10.2025 or from the date of joining, succeeding Dharmendra who retires on September 30.
  • Verma moves after about 19 months as Chandigarh’s chief secretary, having taken charge there in February 2024 following a prior stint as Puducherry’s chief secretary.
  • A 1992-batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre, he earlier served as Delhi’s finance and revenue secretary from 2018 to 2022 and held senior roles in the Transport and other departments.
  • He holds an MTech in computer science from an IIT and has over three decades of administrative experience across Union Territories and Delhi.
  • His central government experience includes postings in the Defence, Power, and Health & Family Welfare ministries, and a senior Delhi finance official described his style as rule-based yet practical.
