MG U9 Priced From $52,990 Drive-Away as Brand Enters Australia’s Ute Market

The SAIC-derived ute adopts multi-link rear suspension to prioritise SUV-like comfort over payload.

Overview

  • MG confirmed a three-grade range with drive-away pricing of $52,990 for Explore, $55,990 for Explore X and $61,990 for Explore Pro, with sales open now and deliveries due in the coming months.
  • A 2.5-litre turbo-diesel produces 160kW and 520Nm through an eight-speed automatic and permanent four-wheel drive, with a claimed 7.9L/100km and an 80L tank for roughly 1000km theoretical range.
  • The multi-link rear setup limits payload to 870kg (Explore), 835kg (Explore X) and 770kg (Explore Pro) while retaining a 3500kg braked towing capacity, 3320kg GVM and 6500kg GCM.
  • Headline hardware is concentrated in the flagship, which adds a front locking differential, an electric two-step tailgate and an optional $5500 electrically foldable rear cabin access panel (Smart Hatch).
  • First drives in pre-production vehicles at an off-road park north of Sydney reported a spacious, SUV-like cabin and generous equipment, with on-road assessments still to come.
