Mezzanine Collapses at Paraná Bar, Injuring 15

Pericias by fire and police scientific units aim to establish whether storm damage or structural failure caused the wooden platform to give way

Overview

  • The raised wooden mezzanine at Bar Las Piedras in downtown Paraná gave way during a birthday gathering late Friday night, causing people on the platform to fall about 2.5–3 meters.
  • Rescue firefighters, Bomberos Zapadores, Bomberos Voluntarios, police and municipal Control Urbano evacuated the venue and treated about 15 people at the scene.
  • Seven injured people were transferred to Hospital San Martín for further evaluation and the official medical conditions of patients have not yet been released.
  • Forensic teams from fire services and Policía Científica are conducting on-site pericias and the site has been cordoned off while investigators seek the cause of the collapse.
  • If investigators find structural faults or maintenance lapses, the incident could trigger tighter safety inspections and licensing reviews for similar central-city entertainment venues.
