Overview

  • Germany and Lower Saxony injected €400 million in equity and guaranteed €2.6 billion in loans to rescue Meyer Werft from insolvency in 2024.
  • Chief executive Ralf Schmitz says the yard is assessing a defense role and could mass-produce four to five frigates in series.
  • The yard already builds naval supply vessels with Lürssen-Werft and its covered docks shield ships from drone and satellite surveillance, although it lacks in-house radar and weapons capabilities.
  • Meyer Werft remains fully contracted on cruise ship projects through 2031, with recent delivery of the Disney Adventure and future vessels for Carnival and Disney Cruise Line.
  • Current financing extends only to the end of 2028, underscoring the need for refinancing to sustain its multi-year shipbuilding pipeline.
