Mexico’s Original Textile Encounter Sets Fifth Edition for Nov. 27–30 at Los Pinos

The federal initiative seeks to strengthen living heritage by opening fairer markets through provenance certification.

Overview

  • More than 400 artisans from all 32 Mexican states will convene at Complejo Cultural Los Pinos for sales, forums, workshops, traditional kitchens, music and dance.
  • Each runway will debut a commissioned musical work, with five premieres led by artists including Horacio Franco and Leslie García.
  • Twelve invited artisans from Armenia, Chile, China, Norway, New Zealand and the Dominican Republic will participate, with textile samples from Guatemala.
  • The program will continue applying the ‘marca Original’ certificate to document authorship, community, materials and techniques, giving buyers clear provenance and care details.
  • Cultural officials reported one active plagiarism complaint involving the Oaxaca Slip-On by Willy Chavarría with Adidas, noting that some agreements have been reached.
