Overview

  • Mexico’s Economically Active Population reached 62.5 million in October with 60.9 million employed and about 1.6 million unemployed, putting the jobless rate at 2.6% and up roughly 96,000 people year over year.
  • Compared with September, total employment rose by 655,511 as informal work increased by 831,860 and formal jobs fell by 176,349, lifting the informality rate to 55.7% and bringing informal workers to 33.9 million.
  • Through October, the economy added about 1.5 million jobs in 2025, with more than 2 million in informal roles and a net loss of roughly 488,000 formal positions, according to analysis cited by Banco Base.
  • Underemployment stood at 4.6 million people, or 7.5% of the employed, marking an uptick from the prior month but down from 9.4% in October 2024.
  • Services led October hiring and industry posted gains concentrated in manufacturing, while private analysts warn the labor market is moderating and job growth is skewing toward lower-quality, informal work.
