Mexico’s New Telecom Regulator Installs Pleno, Approves Operating Rules

A 15‑business‑day pause on filings now applies following the body’s formal integration.

Overview

  • The Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones convened its five-member Pleno on Oct. 21 and approved internal guidelines to start operations.
  • A transitory article in the new telecom law suspends all related procedures for 15 business days once the Pleno is integrated.
  • The CRT, a deconcentrated body within the Agency of Digital Transformation and Telecommunications, replaces the dissolved IFT and takes charge of spectrum, orbital resources and satellite services.
  • ATDT has met with 133 former IFT appointees over unpaid indemnities reported at about 128 million pesos and will seek a resolution with the Finance Ministry.
  • The regulator set priorities that include universal coverage, expanded access to spectrum, protection of orbital assets and greater audience participation, led by president Norma Solano Rodríguez.
