Overview
- In early August 2025 the Secretaría de Marina-Armada de México publicly introduced five litters of primarily Belgian Malinois-type puppies under the ‘Generación FIFA’ banner.
- The training encompasses four structured phases—socialization, atractor, fijación and marcaje—with maternal socialization forming the foundation of each puppy’s development.
- Handlers including Cabo Fabián, Marinera Reyes and Marinero Ixtla lead the hands-on conditioning and selection process for the canine teams.
- Once certified, the dogs will operate at key entry points such as Mexico City airports and seaports to screen for explosives during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
- The launch integrates with counterterrorism exercises and trilateral security planning involving Mexico, the United States and Canada that began in 2022.
