Mexico’s Mandatory Mobile Line Registry Starts Jan. 9

Authorities aim to curb phone‑based crime by tying every line to a verified ID.

Overview

  • Registration runs from Jan. 9 through late June 2026, with carriers required to enable linkage platforms by Jan. 8 and to suspend ordinary service for unlinked lines beginning in early July.
  • Individuals must provide a RENAPO‑verified CURP plus official photo ID (INE or passport), while companies must present RFC and representative documentation.
  • Telcel, AT&T and Movistar will offer remote registration via online/SMS or QR with selfie proof‑of‑life, as well as in‑person service at customer attention centers.
  • The rules allow three remote attempts before switching to in‑person verification, cap individuals at 10 lines per ID, and do not allow minors to be listed as titulars.
  • New SIMs and eSIMs will be commercialized in a disabled state until linked, unregistered numbers will be limited to emergency and attention calls, and a consultation portal to check linked lines must be live by Feb. 7.
