Mexico’s Lower House Approves Sharp Fee Hikes for INAH Museums and Archaeological Sites Starting 2026

Framed in the 2026 fiscal package, the measure raises entry charges to bolster revenue, preserving exemptions, restricting some discounts.

Overview

  • Lawmakers passed the Federal Rights Law reform 352–133, setting new INAH admission fees to take effect on January 1, 2026.
  • Foreign-visitor prices by tier rise to roughly 209.09 pesos (Category 1), 156.75 (Category 2), 143.69 (Category 3), and 104.50 (new Category 4).
  • Category 4 covers high-traffic sites including Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, Dzibilchaltún and the Museo del Pueblo Maya, with no discounts allowed in this tier.
  • The after-hours visit charge jumps about 117% to 731.84 pesos, and no discounts apply to visits outside regular operating hours.
  • Nationals and foreign residents who prove status get up to 50% off (e.g., Category 1 at 104.55 pesos), with exemptions maintained for seniors, children, students, people with disabilities, pensioners and authorized researchers, and Sunday entry remains free for nationals and residents; INBAL-run museums are not affected.
