Overview
- Mexico’s national weather service confirms Cold Front No. 24 is arriving, bringing heavy rain bands, gusts up to about 70 km/h in the northwest, and a chance of snow or sleet in Baja California’s mountains.
- Minimum temperatures are forecast to drop to -10 to -5 °C with frost in the highlands of Chihuahua and Durango, with subzero lows also possible in ranges of Baja California, Sonora, Zacatecas, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala and Puebla.
- Tijuana faces clouds, intermittent rain and strong winds today with gusts potentially reaching 63 km/h, while Mexicali’s forecast calls for clouds and probable showers, according to local reports citing AccuWeather.
- Despite the front, much of the north and west will remain stable and dry, although nights and early mornings will be very cold on the high plateaus due to radiational cooling.
- From December 25 to 27, a mid-to-upper-level trough and moisture inflow are expected to sustain showers and strong to very strong local rains in the southeast and Yucatán, including Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas, with continued northwest winds and a renewed chance of wintry mix in Baja California’s sierras Friday night into early Saturday.
