Mexico’s Births Drop 8.5% in 2024, Third Straight Annual Decline

INEGI’s new figures signal demographic headwinds that could raise dependency ratios, pressuring public services.

  • Mexico recorded 1,672,227 births in 2024, equal to 47.7 per 1,000 women aged 15–49, according to INEGI.
  • Births to mothers aged 10–17 rose to 10.1% of the total, up sharply from 5.6% in 2023.
