Overview
- As of October 1, banks have activated MTU controls in apps, online banking and phone channels, allowing users to set per‑operation, daily or monthly limits immediately.
- Customers who did not configure a limit have been assigned a default cap, commonly 1,500 UDIS (about 12,800 pesos), with banks notifying users of the applied setting.
- Transactions that exceed the set MTU prompt additional authentication such as SMS codes, tokens, biometrics or secure callbacks rather than being automatically rejected.
- The MTU applies to outgoing digital transfers to third parties, including SPEI, CoDi, Dimo and service or card payments, and does not affect incoming deposits, own‑account moves, ATM withdrawals or in‑person card purchases; Level 1 accounts are exempt.
- By January 1, 2026, all users must have an MTU in place, after which banks may estimate caps from transaction history or peer profiles, and customers can adjust limits at any time through their bank’s channels.
