Overview
- From October 1, banks enabled MTU controls and applied automatic limits near 1,500 UDIS (about MXN 12,830) for users who did not configure them, with Banorte setting MXN 12,360.
- The MTU applies to individuals and caps each outgoing transfer to third-party accounts across channels such as SPEI, CoDi and Dimo, while business accounts are excluded.
- Deposits like payroll and year‑end bonuses arrive in full, and the rule does not affect card purchases, branch deposits or transfers between a customer’s own accounts.
- Customers can change their cap at no cost, often via the app though some banks now require adjustments at ATMs or branches, and transfers above the limit are blocked or require additional authentication.
- The feature is live across banks and becomes mandatory for all clients by January 1, 2026, while sofipos such as Nu are not yet required and are using a separate Scam Alert tool.
