Mexico’s Auto Sales Nudge Higher in September, Breaking Five-Month Decline

Industry leaders caution the official count likely misses units because several Chinese brands do not report to the registry.

Overview

  • INEGI/RAIAVL reported 117,182 light vehicles sold in September 2025, a 0.3% year-on-year rise that ends a negative run since April.
  • Year-to-date sales reached 1,075,188 units through September, down 0.6% from the same period in 2024.
  • Nissan led the month with 20,872 units sold, up 11.5% versus a year earlier, while General Motors fell 6.3% and Volkswagen slipped 1.2%.
  • Discounts and more attractive financing in September helped lift results for brands such as KIA, Nissan, Renault and Changan.
  • AMDA’s conservative full-year forecast stands at 1,487,641 units, with a more detailed RAIAVL report due on October 7.
