Overview
- Between July 14 and 16, the Agencia Reguladora del Transporte Ferroviario issued international tenders for 15 electric trains on the Mexico City–Pachuca corridor and for construction of the Querétaro–Irapuato and Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo subsegments.
- The 15-train tender requires at least 55% domestic content and ERTMS-equipped trains capable of reaching 130 km/h, with capacities exceeding 700 passengers and at least 315 seats; it also includes commissioning, five-year maintenance and workshop outfitting.
- Bidders for the two rail subsegments must submit technical and financial proposals by 10:00 on August 1 via ComprasMX, while proposals for the train package are due on August 18 and awards will be announced on August 29.
- Preparatory site visits and multiple rounds of bidder clarification meetings are under way to address technical queries and platform access challenges.
- These procurements support SICT and ARTF’s broader plan to expand passenger rail—connecting Felipe Ángeles Airport to Pachuca by December 2025 and resolving right-of-way disputes.
