Overview
- In 2024, Mexico recorded 486,645 marriages, down 3% year over year, for a rate of 5.4 per 1,000 adults versus 6.9 in 2015.
- Average age at marriage rose to 32.1 for women and 35.0 for men, extending a decade-long rise into the early 30s.
- Divorces totaled 161,932 in 2024 for a rate of 1.79 per 1,000 adults, below the 2022 peak yet higher than 2015, equal to 33.3 divorces per 100 marriages.
- Regional contrasts were sharp: marriage rates were highest in Quintana Roo (7.7) and lowest in Mexico City and Tlaxcala (3.4), while Campeche led divorce rates (4.89) and approached 70 divorces per 100 marriages.
- Same-sex marriages reached 6,312 (about 1.3% of the total) with 439 divorces among women and 244 among men, and only seven child marriages were registered nationwide.
