Mexico Warns of Intense Rains and Hail as Galicia Stays Largely Dry Ahead of Atlantic Shift

A monsoon–tropical wave setup is driving thunderstorms, hail, and flood risks across much of Mexico today.

Overview

  • SMN and Conagua forecast very heavy to intense rainfall of 75–150 mm today in parts of Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Chiapas, with additional heavy bands across the north, center and southeast.
  • Mexico City and the State of Mexico are under alerts for cold dawn conditions with fog in high zones followed by afternoon and evening storms, hail and 30–45 km/h gusts, with CDMX temperatures near 14–16 °C minimum and 25–27 °C maximum.
  • Authorities warn of urban flooding, landslides, rising rivers, reduced visibility and falling trees or signage, urging residents to follow civil protection guidance during peak storm hours.
  • Jalisco saw intense storms on Monday with electrical activity and hail risk, with coastal wave heights of 1.5–2.5 m and continued evening downpours noted by the national meteorological service.
  • In Spain, AEMET and Euskalmet flag an Atlantic trough that will turn the Cantabrian coast cooler and wetter midweek, while many Galician towns on Tuesday report increasing clouds but a 0% rain probability and highs mostly in the 20s °C.
