Mexico Updates Border Operation Totals as Raids Hit Sinaloa Labs, Seize 100 Explosive Devices

The multiagency campaign now counts 114,151.6 kilos of drugs seized since February as arrests approach 9,800.

Overview

  • Federal security officials reported 9,735 detentions, 7,258 firearms, and 1,239,866 rounds of ammunition seized under Operación Frontera Norte since February 5, including 549 kilos of fentanyl within 114,151.6 kilos of drugs.
  • In Culiacán and Cosalá, authorities inactivated 10 areas used to concentrate inputs for synthetic-drug production, securing 13,410 liters and 825 kilos of chemical precursors along with four reactors, three condensers, and a gas tank.
  • In Escuinapa, Sinaloa, a joint raid yielded 14 long guns, tactical gear, a vehicle, and 100 explosive devices, while a separate search in Culiacán turned up fentanyl doses at a narcotics-linked property.
  • Under the Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia, forces recently detained 10 people in Uruapan, Tarímbaro, Apatzingán, and Huetamo, seizing eight firearms, 438 cartridges, methamphetamine doses, five kilograms of marijuana, and five vehicles.
  • Other December 4 actions included arrests and drug and ammunition seizures in Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito, plus two extraditions to the United States for homicide and sexual assault cases.
