Mexico Unveils 2026 High-School Expansion as 2025 Buildout Nears Completion

The plan directs 5,749.2 million pesos to expand access with schools placed closer to students.

  • Touting progress at the presidential briefing, SEP said 88 works in 2025 will deliver 44,685 places by November–December through 20 new campuses, 33 expansions and 35 reconversions.

  • Officials reported near-complete connectivity for remote sites as CFE linked 3,483 teleplanteles to the internet, benefiting roughly 193,004 students and 12,529 teachers.
  • The initiative forms part of the first generation of the unified Bachillerato Nacional, which seeks to reach 85% upper‑secondary coverage by 2030 with 120,000 new places.
  • Site selection follows the La escuela cerca de tu casa strategy, prioritizing oversubscribed urban areas and regions in federal justice plans to cut long commutes and lower dropout.
