Overview
- The Energy Ministry, which detailed the plan Thursday at the presidential briefing, set a 140 billion peso program carried out by the state utility CFE and the gas grid operator CENAGAS.
- CFE will invest about 53 billion pesos to build new gas lines and power plants, while CENAGAS will put in about 87 billion pesos to add pipelines and overhaul existing ducts and compression stations.
- CENAGAS is building three lines named Coatzacoalco II, Naco–Hermosillo–Guaymas and Libramiento Reynosa, alongside 41 modernization projects that include maintenance and information technology upgrades.
- The upgrades are timed to supply seven new CFE combined-cycle plants slated for 2026–2027, and construction of new facilities is expected to create about 18,400 jobs.
- Mexico’s gas grid spans 21,149 kilometers, with large portions inherited from PEMEX, so rehabilitation aims to cut failures and extend service to industry and programs such as the Polos del Bienestar.
