Argentina Issues Yellow Storm Alerts as Galicia Faces Foggy but Dry Skies

Forecasts highlight localized hazards, a short wet window for AMBA, then a turn to drier conditions by the weekend.

Overview

  • Argentina’s national weather service (SMN) placed yellow alerts on Oct. 16 for storms across Jujuy, Misiones, Corrientes, and parts of Formosa, Chaco, Santa Fe and Salta, plus separate wind alerts for Chubut, San Luis, Córdoba, La Rioja and San Juan.
  • SMN warns of brief but intense downpours, frequent lightning, occasional hail and gusts up to about 90 km/h, with local rainfall totals of 40–80 mm possible.
  • For the Buenos Aires metro area, SMN projects rain and isolated storms between Oct. 16–17 with localized 20–40 mm, after temperatures near 19–28 °C on Thursday and a cooler Friday.
  • SMN indicates storm alerts extend into Friday in northern regions, with higher severity (orange) expected in parts of Chaco, Corrientes and Misiones.
  • In Spain’s Pontevedra province, AEMET‑based local forecasts call for cloudy, humid conditions with morning fog and essentially no measurable rain, and advise caution for reduced visibility.
