Mexico Streamlines Culture Ministry Through New Internal Regulations

Overview

  • Diario Oficial de la Federación published the new Reglamento Interior on July 23, replacing the 2016 rule and marking President Claudia Sheinbaum’s formal sign-off on the overhaul.
  • The ministry’s administrative units were reduced from 16 to 12 and five desconcentrated administrative organs were created to improve operational efficiency.
  • The Unidad de Culturas Vivas, Patrimonio Inmaterial e Interculturalidad was activated under anthropologist Diego Prieto to strengthen living traditions and intercultural policies.
  • The Fonoteca Nacional now reports to the Directorate of Libraries, and the Centro Nacional de las Artes is reassigned to the Directorate of Circuits and Festivals within the secretariat.
  • Several directorates were renamed and restructured, including the former Fonca becoming the Directorate of System Support for Cultural Project Creation.
