Mexico Starts House-to-House Flood Damage Census With Air Bridges and Troop Deployment

Most federal highway blockages have been cleared with five routes still closed.

Overview

  • President Claudia Sheinbaum toured hard-hit areas in Veracruz and Puebla, pledging that no one will be left without aid and saying cleanup comes first as a door-to-door count begins Monday.
  • Federal authorities report roughly 111 municipalities across Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, Querétaro and San Luis Potosí have been affected by the torrential rains.
  • Plan DN-3 and Plan Marina are active with more than 6,000 soldiers, over 3,000 marines and about 250 machines engaged in rescues, road clearance and immediate services.
  • Air bridges are ferrying supplies and patients to isolated communities while crews address 108 federal-highway interruptions, 103 already resolved and five still pending.
  • Pemex provided two helicopters, Hydrosub pumping units, fast rescue boats and a mobile medical unit, as residents in Poza Rica demanded clearer information about missing people.
