Overview
- The Second Simulacro Nacional is scheduled for Friday at 12:00 p.m. (Central) with a hypothetical magnitude 8.1 earthquake centered in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.
- For the first time, a nationwide cell-broadcast alert will be sent to more than 80 million devices, showing on screen with a distinctive sound even if phones are locked or on silent and without using apps or personal data.
- Alerts will also go out through 14,491 public loudspeakers, about 100 AM/FM radio stations and 11 television broadcasters to test multi-channel readiness.
- Some states will drill alternative scenarios tailored to local risks, including hurricane, tsunami and urban fire exercises beyond the main earthquake hypothesis.
- Officials published guidance to enable emergency alerts on iOS and Android and asked the public to report any failed street loudspeakers to 911 or Locatel with the device ID and exact location.
