Mexico Sets 'Original 2025' in Mérida for Oct. 13–16 Indigenous Craft Showcase

The initiative centers on protecting indigenous cultural rights by opposing plagiarism.

Overview

  • The Secretaría de Cultura confirmed the Oct. 13–16 program at Mérida’s Centro de Convenciones Siglo XXI with free entry to encourage responsible purchase of culturally identified works.
  • About 300 master artisans from across Mexico will exhibit and sell textiles, jewelry, accessories, and decorative or utilitarian pieces.
  • The invited masters represent 2,498 artisans nationwide, with 183 textiles, 47 jewelry pieces, 40 accessories, and 30 decorative or utilitarian items slated for display.
  • Four runway shows at the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya will present roughly 180 original pieces, with one pasarela scheduled each day.
  • The program includes the First Encuentro de Filigrana from Oct. 15–17 at the museum with 50 artisans, and Yucatán Governor Joaquín “Huacho” Díaz Mena invited visitors to Mérida for the event.
