Mexico Sets Oct. 16 Launch for Biometric CURP With Mandatory Acceptance Across Institutions

Data will be stored in SEGOB’s Plataforma Única, slated to be operational by October 15.

Overview

  • The new CURP adds fingerprints, iris scans, a facial photograph and an electronic signature to traditional personal data.
  • RENAPO will open roughly 145 in‑person enrollment modules nationwide, with an online option via Llave MX for people whose biometrics are already on file with agencies such as INE or SAT.
  • Officials say individual enrollment is voluntary at launch, and RENAPO indicates issuance could become mandatory by February 2026.
  • From October 16, public agencies and private entities must accept and validate the biometric CURP for official procedures.
  • The credential is intended to carry the same identification weight as an INE card or passport, and the process will be free with required documents including a certified birth certificate, valid photo ID, traditional CURP, proof of address, and active email and phone.
