Mexico Sets National Public Health Week for Sept. 6–13, Targeting 20 Million People

Officials say the drive targets low vaccination coverage, with a focus on early detection in underserved communities after measles cases concentrated in Chihuahua.

Overview

  • The campaign will operate across all 32 states, 242 health jurisdictions and 2,478 municipalities under federal, state and municipal coordination.
  • Free services include vaccines from the National Immunization Schedule and boosters for children, adolescents, pregnant women and older adults, plus screenings for blood pressure, glucose, HIV, oral health and nutrition.
  • Health fairs, community modules and mobile brigades will bring care to plazas, schools and remote areas, prioritizing indigenous communities, migrants, people with disabilities, older adults and rural populations.
  • Health authorities urged measles vaccination after reporting 4,353 cases and 17 deaths nationwide, with more than 95% of cases in Chihuahua, and noted nearly 6 million vaccine doses administered so far.
  • Public outreach will include a Lotería Nacional commemorative ticket on September 7 to promote awareness of prevention and vaccination.
