Mexico Sets Measles Megacenter at UNAM for Sept. 17–19

The UNAM-run drive aims to quickly close immunity gaps across key age groups.

Overview

  • Health authorities will vaccinate people from 6 months to 49 years at Estadio Olímpico Universitario, Parking 3 (Access G), from 9:00 to 15:00 on September 17–19, with the Cartilla Nacional de Salud required.
  • As of September 12, the SSA reports 4,553 confirmed cases and 19 deaths, with the virus detected in 97 municipalities across 23 states and Chihuahua accounting for 92.9% of cases (4,231).
  • The SSA emphasizes that the measles vaccine is free, considered safe, and provides protection exceeding 95%.
  • Mexico City reports six confirmed cases and has deployed door-to-door brigades, school-based checks, and kiosks in high-traffic sites, supported by 360,000 SRP doses and a target to lift coverage toward 95%.
  • Officials advise staying home once a case is confirmed, note that diagnosis requires a laboratory test, and state antibiotics are not needed unless complications arise, with hand hygiene strongly urged.
