Mexico Sets May 30 Deadline for 2026 Profit-Sharing Payouts

Mexico’s labor agency urges on-time PTU payouts to protect a vital cash boost for workers.

Overview

  • Workers at companies must be paid by May 30, while those employed by individuals have until June 29 under the Federal Labor Law.
  • The payout equals 10% of a company's taxable profit, with half divided by days worked and half by wages earned under Article 123.
  • Eligibility covers staff who worked at least 60 days in businesses older than a year that reported more than 300,000 pesos in net profit, and it excludes directors, domestic workers, partners and contractors paid by fees.
  • The Labor Ministry urged employers this week to meet the deadlines and noted PTU distributions have grown 150% to 259.6 billion pesos in recent years.
  • If payment does not arrive by the deadline, workers have one year to claim, PROFEDET offers free help at 01 800 717 2942 and 01 800 911 7877 or by email at orientacionprofedet@stps.gob.mx, and employers face fines from 50 to 5,000 minimum wages.
