Mexico Sets 2026 Fuel IEPS Rates, Vows No Gasoline Price Hike Under Stabilization Pact

Officials say the inflation update will not reach consumers under the existing pact with gas station operators.

Overview

  • The Finance Ministry published the 2026 IEPS quotas in the official gazette, effective January 1: Magna 6.7001 pesos/liter, Premium 5.6579, and diesel 7.3634.
  • In a joint statement, Finance and Energy reaffirmed that the indexation will not raise retail fuel prices as the stabilization strategy remains in force to keep regular gasoline under 24 pesos per liter.
  • The stabilization scheme is coordinated across SHCP, Sener, Environment, the National Energy Commission, SAT, Profeco, ASEA and Pemex, with authorities citing broad industry participation.
  • State-level IEPS components were also updated, and LP gas quotas were set at 10.1248 centavos per liter for propane and 13.1025 for butane.
  • President Claudia Sheinbaum previously reported that about 98% of gas stations renewed the agreement, and El Economista notes fuel IEPS is a major revenue source with 2025 collections estimated at 473,279 million pesos.
