Mexico Sends 500 Elite Troops to U.S. Rotation as 2026 World Cup Security Prep Intensifies

The training advances cross-border interoperability for World Cup security in 2026.

Overview

  • About 500 personnel from Mexico’s Special Forces and Parachute Rifle Brigade took part in the Ejercicio Rotacional 2025 at the Joint Readiness Training Center in Fort Johnson, Louisiana, alongside U.S. Army units.
  • The rotation ran from September 4 to October 3 and focused on communications, logistical support, and tactical cooperation to strengthen operational coordination.
  • Mexico has participated in these rotations since 2022 under principles of reciprocity, shared responsibility, mutual trust, and respect for national sovereignty.
  • The training follows a series of 2025 engagements that included a May 27–28 session in Santa Gertrudis with USNORTHCOM’s commander, a June 23–25 visit to USNORTHCOM and NORAD in Colorado Springs, and an August 5–7 border commanders’ meeting in Ensenada.
  • Mexican officials also attended the August 18–22 final planning conference for AMALGAM EAGLE 2025 in Cleveland with U.S. and Canadian counterparts to shape air-defense scenarios tied to 2026 World Cup preparations.
