Mexico Seizes 4,265.8 Tonnes of Illegal Fish Products in Major Enforcement Drive

Overview

  • During the first half of 2025 the Secretaría de Marina and Secretaría de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural via Conapesca confiscated 4,265.8 tonnes of illicit fish products.
  • Authorities also seized 7,689 unauthorized fishing implements, retained 220 vehicles, impounded 79 vessel engines, 107 small boats and four larger vessels, and referred 15 individuals to the Public Ministry.
  • Enforcement spanned 18 states from Baja California to Yucatán, covering both coastal waters and inland waterways in a coordinated nationwide effort.
  • Officials carried out 1,301 aquatic patrols, 7,955 terrestrial patrols, installed 1,450 checkpoints and held 1,516 prevention talks to deter illicit fishing activities.
  • Conapesca maintains a 24-hour hotline for public reporting of illegal fishing as part of broader efforts to protect marine resources and strengthen Mexico’s food sovereignty.
