Mexico Seizes 13 Tonnes and 13,400 Liters of Drug Precursors at Durango Highway Checkpoint

Officials frame the AIC-led seizure as a supply‑chain disruption aimed at curbing synthetic‑drug production.

Overview

  • Federal agents intercepted a dry‑box tractor‑trailer on the Panamericana Durango–Hidalgo del Parral at km 238+700 during a checkpoint inspection.
  • The AIC of the FGR led the multi‑agency operation with support from SSPC, SEDENA, SEMAR and the National Guard.
  • Authorities cataloged 7,500 kg of lead acetone, 4,500 kg of caustic soda, 900 kg of tartaric acid, 4,000 liters of ethanol, 3,000 liters of other liquids and 100 kg of a white solid pending identification.
  • The driver was detained and turned over to the Ministerio Público as forensic analysis proceeds on certain seized materials.
  • SSPC’s Omar García Harfuch said the interdiction prevents the production of millions of drug doses and cuts off significant proceeds to criminal groups.
