Overview
- Three days before the August 19 deadline, at least 20 candidates have registered or been nominated on Segob’s online microsite.
- Registration closes at 23:00 hrs on Tuesday, after which the Interior Ministry will spend five business days evaluating formal eligibility under the law on forced disappearance.
- On August 26 Segob plans to publish the list of qualified candidates and their CVs to solicit observations from victims’ collectives, experts and civil society organizations.
- The applicant pool includes former state search commissioners, a former CNDH disappearances coordinator and family members of missing persons turned independent buscadores.
- Interviews and a parallel Senate advisory review are scheduled for September as incumbent commissioner Teresa Guadalupe Reyes departs on August 31.
