Mexico Security Push Nets Major Seizures and Arrests Across Multiple States

Officials say the actions are part of Operación Frontera Norte, now reporting over 6,500 detentions.

  • Sinaloa forces reported August 19–20 raids that uncovered seven clandestine chemical concentration areas and seized 11,425 liters of substances, 375 kilograms of caustic soda, weapons, thousands of rounds and improvised explosive devices, after an Army unit repelled an armed attack in San Ignacio.
  • Mexico’s Security Cabinet updated Operación Frontera Norte through August 20 to 6,521 people detained, 5,074 firearms and 59.69 tons of drugs seized, noting that recent actions also disabled six sites in Culiacán and Elota and secured 6,500 liters and 175 kilos of meth precursors with lab equipment.
  • Federal authorities executed simultaneous raids in Estado de México, Jalisco and Nayarit, detaining 14 people and serving 10 arrest warrants as they targeted an arms‑trafficking cell, with seizures that included explosives, long and short guns, tactical gear and vehicles.
  • Mexico City officials announced 13 arrests in the first phase of the probe into the May killings of Ximena Guzmán and José Muñoz, saying some detainees had warrants while the suspected shooter remains at large and the investigation continues.
  • In a separate regional case, police in La Quiaca, Argentina, intercepted a truck and seized 52.27 kilograms of cocaine hidden in fuel tanks, detained three suspects and referred the case to the federal narcotics prosecutor.
