Mexico Secures Release of Six Detained in Gaza Aid Flotilla as Return Journey Begins

Israel authorized repatriation with embassy accompaniment via Jordan, then Türkiye.

Overview

  • They left Israel for Amman, were received by Mexico’s ambassador in Jordan, and on Tuesday reached Istanbul for a layover en route to Mexico City under ambassadorial escort.
  • The Foreign Ministry said it obtained Israeli authorization and activated a protection protocol that includes continuous consular support and access to required medications.
  • The six are identified by the SRE as Sol González Eguía, Ernesto Ledesma Arronte, Arlín Medrano Guzmán, Carlos Pérez Osorio, Diego Vázquez Galindo, and Laura Alejandra Vélez Ruiz Gaitán.
  • They were detained after the Global Sumud Flotilla was intercepted in international waters and were held at Ketziot prison, where Mexican diplomats conducted consular visits.
  • Mexico acknowledged assistance from Jordan and Türkiye for safe transit, as Argentina and Colombia also reported the release and repatriation or deportation of their citizens from the flotilla.
