Mexico Revokes CAME’s Sofipo License, Launches Liquidation and Guaranteed Payouts

Eligible savers can now claim up to 25,000 UDIs through the sector protection fund, covering virtually all deposit accounts.

Overview

  • Following a board vote on September 19 and publication in the Diario Oficial on September 22, CAME is barred from operating and has entered dissolution and liquidation.
  • Prosofipo’s guarantee covers up to 25,000 UDIs per person (about 219,000 pesos), which the CNBV says will reimburse about 99.5% of depositors, or roughly 169,564 people.
  • Depositors have 180 calendar days to file a Solicitud de Pago via fondodeproteccion.mx or at the Iztapalapa office (Atanasio G. Sarabia 1565); validated claims must be paid within up to 80 days.
  • Around 800–850 depositors with balances above the insured cap are not fully covered, and payments will be financed by the sector fund rather than the public treasury.
  • The June intervention cited significant capital loss and NICAP category 4 insolvency, and affected groups continue protests and legal actions alleging mismanagement and delayed supervision.
