Overview

  • Nearly 900 head crossed on July 7 through Agua Prieta after passing inspections at ranch, quarantine station and U.S. APHIS checkpoints.
  • Sonora is the first state cleared under the new bilateral health-verification rules, with only cattle raised in Sonora or Chihuahua eligible in this phase.
  • U.S. APHIS teams confirmed in June that screw-worm cases remain confined to Mexico’s south-southeast, paving the way for phased reopenings.
  • Additional U.S.–Mexico border crossings are slated to reopen between mid-July and September, with a target of stabilizing shipments at 1,300 head per day.
  • A $51 million joint investment will convert the Metapa de Domínguez facility in Chiapas into a sterile-fly production plant by early 2026 to reinforce long-term eradication efforts.
