Mexico Reports Progress in USMCA Review Consultations

Mexico is compiling sector and state input to set its negotiating priorities before formal USMCA talks in early 2026.

Overview

  • Between October 6 and 10, the Economy Ministry held working groups with industries including wood–furniture and paper, processed foods and beverages, mining, and plastics and toys.
  • State-level sessions were convened in Guerrero, Tlaxcala, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, and Nuevo León to gather regional priorities.
  • The ministry distributed questionnaires to businesses, chambers, associations, and academia to collect data for statistical analysis and to classify proposals by USMCA chapters.
  • Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said consultations are occurring in parallel across Mexico, the United States, and Canada, with Mexican and Canadian officials holding follow-up meetings since September.
  • The window to submit opinions runs through November 15 as reported, with trilateral meetings expected to be formalized early in 2026 and the first treaty review slated for July 2026 under Article 34.7.
