Mexico Reports 37% Drop in Daily Homicides, Preliminary 2025 Rate at 11-Year Low

Officials credit coordinated crackdowns and targeted state plans as seven states still account for most killings and extortion rises.

Overview

  • SESNSP data show average daily homicidios dolosos fell from 86.9 in September 2024 to 54.7 in November 2025—32 fewer per day—with November at its lowest level for that month since 2015.
  • The national homicide rate for 2025 stands at a preliminary 15.07 per 100,000 inhabitants, a projected 11-year low that will be updated when December figures are added.
  • Federal authorities report more than 38,700 detainees and 311 tonnes of drugs seized so far in the administration, with 1,761 arrests and 15 tonnes seized in November, plus over 20,000 firearms confiscated and 1,760 meth labs dismantled.
  • While multiple high‑impact crimes including feminicide, kidnapping and violent robbery show declines, extortion has increased by about 23.1% according to the latest SESNSP report.
  • Violence remains concentrated in Guanajuato, Chihuahua, Baja California, Sinaloa, Estado de México, Guerrero and Michoacán, as state efforts report gains such as Guanajuato’s CONFÍA claiming a 58% homicide drop and Plan Michoacán tied to a November fall to 60 cases and 972 arrests with major seizures.
