Mexico Reports 32% Drop in Homicides as August Marks Lowest Level Since 2015

Officials credit coordinated federal–state operations under the National Security Strategy for the decline.

Overview

  • August averaged 59.2 intentional homicides per day, down from 86.9 in September 2024, reaching the lowest monthly level since 2015.
  • From October 1, 2024 to September 8, 2025, authorities report 32,400 detentions, 16,048 firearms seized, 245 tonnes of drugs secured, and 1,408 laboratories dismantled, with 1,669 arrests and 5.6 tonnes of drugs seized in the last two weeks alone.
