Overview
- SEGOB, which disclosed the figures Friday, reported 203,685 Mexican nationals returned from the U.S. between January 20, 2025 and April 16, 2026.
- Of the total, 164,444 people reentered by land and 39,241 arrived by air, according to INM records presented by the Interior Ministry.
- Monthly totals rose through 2025 and peaked in October with 16,621 returns, while early 2026 held near or above 14,000 per month.
- Returnees are received through the “México te abraza” program, which runs eight reception centers across seven states with space for 1,600 people and a daily intake of about 300 to 350.
- The Interior Ministry says current levels are down about 87% from the start of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s term, and outlets link the timing of the overall surge to tougher U.S. policy after President Donald Trump took office in 2025.
